A typical cleaning day in the Yancey household

A typical cleaning day in the Yancey home looks about like this....

I start with the kitchen.  I clean the counters, and unload the dishwasher while Boston tries to stand on it.  I put all the pots and pans away on one end of the kitchen, while Boston rips off the baby proof locks and pulls out the rest of the pots and pans.  At this point I decide to put him in his highchair.  I sweep and I vacuum.  I learned a while back that Boss can't be out and about while I'm sweeping or vacuuming (and apparently not while I'm unloading the dishwasher).  He likes to eat from the pile I've swept and lick the vacuum...while I'm vacuuming.  So Boston watches from his highchair while I do some more cleaning.

I figure while he's there I might as well pick up his toys.  At this point he no longer has patience enough to sit in his highchair so I let him down.  I dust and he gets out all the toys I just put away and I remind myself to never clean up his toys, while he is still awake...that is just stupid.  By the time I'm done dusting he's once again, got back out all the pots and pans. We head to my bedroom where I proceed to make the bed.  I throw the pillows and blankets on the floor and Boss dives his face into every pillow laughing hysterically.  Next we head to the bathroom.  I do some spiffing up while he does some more demolition work.  I clean up his mess and decide I will now take some time to myself (you know, shower and pee).  I sit down and in a matter of seconds Boston has pulled all of the hair gels and lotions out from the cupboard, rolled out all the toilet paper and attempted to hang hair gel bottles from my underwear.  Awesome.  It's at this moment I realize my days of privacy are gone, just gone.

He becomes distracted by the garbage can across the room.  He runs to it and tries to pull it out from the corner.  I have a big decision ahead of me.  What mess would I rather clean up?  Pee, or trash?  I chose trash and watch as he spreads the trash about the room, while I am shouting "uh oh" In a semi sing songy voice...not working by the way!

I clean up the mess and hop in the shower.  Boston gets soaking wet as he peaks his head in (for my entire shower) and laughs at me...should I feel insecure about this?  I get out, get dressed, sing a lot more "uh oh's" and again, clean up the bathroom mess and escort Boston out the door.  He cries his perfected little toddler cry that just screams, (literally screams) "life's sooo unfair!!" But then he sees his beautiful mess of pots and pans in the kitchen and he flaps his arms and runs to them.  I imagine at this moment he is thinking something dramatic along the lines of, "When God closes one door, he opens a window!"

Eventually it's time for Boston's nap.  I know it's nap time when Boston starts to do anything in excess.  Excess hitting, shouting, laughing, hugging, running, dancing...good or bad it doesn't matter.  Anything in excess means, "Mom I'm exhausted and I'm not sure how to haanddllee ittttt!!!"

We start our nap time routine and he laughs his way through it.  I think this is an inherited trait.  Ever since I was little when I hop in bed I will get an excited burst of laughter...not sure why.  Anyway, he goes to sleep and I wonder to myself, "Why don't I just wait till after he's asleep to do all that stuff next time".  But if I did that, when would I have time for blogging, or reading, or writing, or eating, or any of those other little things that I enjoy so much.

That settles it.  I will just embrace our crazy little routine and look forward to the day that Boston can actually help me with some of the chores...that day does come, right?
My messy, lovable litte man.
